Description
Alaska Guided Grizzly Bear Hunts
Hunt Dates & Availability
Our grizzly bear hunts begin around April 15th each spring. We offer three 7-day hunts in the spring (April–May) and two 7-day hunts in the fall (August). Each hunt is limited to two hunters maximum, ensuring a personalized and high-quality experience.
Every hunt is 7 days long, beginning on the day we travel to camp (hunting along the way) and ending on day 7 as we return to Nome. If you harvest your bear early, your hunt is considered complete. Depending on opportunities, hunters may also pursue a wolf (additional licenses required)*** Wolverine is closed for rifles March 31st.
Hunting Style
A typical day means traveling by snow machine to locate active dens, then glassing slopes and valleys for grizzlies. This method allows hunters to cover ground effectively while experiencing Alaska’s rugged backcountry.
Lodging & Meals
After each hunt, you’ll return to a heated cabin with comfortable beds (please bring your own sleeping bag). Your guide doubles as the camp cook and will prepare hearty meals—often featuring wild game. Please let us know about any food allergies in advance.
License & Permit Requirements
Our hunt area (Units 22b/22c – DB685) requires hunters to obtain an Undersubscribed Hunt Permit (no cost). These permits are usually available, but we recommend submitting your application right after booking.
In addition, hunters must purchase:
-
Alaska Non-Resident Hunting License: $160
-
Non-Resident Grizzly/Brown Bear Locking Tag: $1,000
Both can be purchased online prior to your arrival.
Trophy Care & Transport
Your hide and skull will be handled professionally so you can bring them home. Note that all bears must be inspected by the Nome Fish & Game office before leaving. Since the office is closed on weekends, harvesting on a Saturday or Sunday may require extending your stay until Monday or Tuesday.
If you need lodging in Nome, we recommend:
-
Aurora Inn & Suites
-
Nome Nugget Inn
-
Polaris Hotel
Gear Recommendations
Alaska weather can be harsh—plan accordingly. Bring:
-
Quality cold-weather gear and layering system
-
Wool socks and pants (or Gore-Tex equivalent)
-
Binoculars, goggles, face mask
-
Limit personal gear to 75 lbs total
